Adrian Belew is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer and guitar guru. Belew has released 20 critically acclaimed solo records and was the frontman, singer, co-writer and guitarist for progressive rock powerhouse King Crimson for 30 years. He also played alongside musicians such as David Bowie, Frank Zappa, Paul Simon, Nine Inch Nails, Tom Tom Club and Talking Heads. Known for his inventive guitar sounds, Belew has begun mixing his unique sound, complex time signatures, witty lyrics, wild sound and technical mastery into his newest app creations, FLUX:FX and FLUX by belew.

Sing Like… Radio Contests

CLIENT:

Entercom Radio

OBJECTIVE:

Website Design and Information Architecture for “Sing Like… Contests”,  a user based contesting system which provides fans the opportunity to perform their favorite artist’s songs in a chance to win a visit with that particular audience. Contestant’s can choose from three official audio tracks that have had the vocal elements removed, not unlike karaoke. Contestants then upload a quicktime video of their vocal performance to be judged by the artist and their record label. The winner receives an invitation to meet with the artist in person. The contests themselves were a huge success for Entercom Communications, the third largest terrestrial radio company in the USA. The “Sing Like Taylor Swift” contest received over 3 million unique views in a single month.

Entercom is the 3rd largest terrestrial radio company with 120+ stations across the USA. As Graphic Design Manager, I was responsible for the online Brand ID of these 120+ radio Stations. This included the collective’s official websites UI and UX design, Social Media Assets, Special Promo Spots, Contests, Interactive Advertising, Banners and Flash.

The design challenge was to prototype, design and deploy template based websites that each had their own individual style that represented the particular brand and genre.

Radio Takeover

OBJECTIVE:

The Entercom “Radio Takeover” series, in an ongoing platform of custom radio and internet programming aimed at highlighting recording artists’ new releases and achievements. Each installment contain original interviews, audio, video and photo content. As Creative Director for the “Radio Takeover” series I worked closely with the artists and record labels to produce the UI/UX design and digital assets for the first four years of the program.

Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort

Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort is the premiere ski and snow sport destination in Oregon, USA. I joined Mt. Hood Meadows in 2003 and Lead Designer to help update the resort’s Brand ID including online marketing, web design, social media and traditional print advertising. It was a designer’s dream, basically having been giving an entire theme park to rebrand. One of the most crucial aspects of the rebranding was the development of a new online ticketing system. I provided the UI/UX design for this new system that helped bring in over $4.5 million in preseason online sales .

AdRocket is an targeted online marketing platform that merges data metrics to deliver banner advertising to specific customers. I worked as Creative Director to help develop the Ad-Rocket Brand ID, including logo design, website UI/UX and social media assets.

Urban Focus is a green focused realty company in Portland, OR. The company redevelops old properties using eco-friendly materials and systems to provide a fresh start to old structures. I worked with Urban Focus to build their online presence and website.

In 1999, I worked as the In-House Web Designer for Universal Pictures to oversee the design of the corporate website and build custom micro-sites for individual motion picture releases. Working closely with the individual film makers to create thematic online presentations and marketing materials, these projects were ground breaking at the time.
